Fear of Darkness: Cosmos documentary and Scientific Thought
Fear of Darkness Cosmos Documentary and Scientific Thought
I also began to watch the Cosmos documentary series, where many of those who enjoyed watching the documentary watched closely, and I completed the series consisting of 13 chapters, watching every part of it with curiosity. A World-class cosmos: A Space Adventure (Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey) documentary series, in fact, about 30 years ago, one of the world’s most valuable scientists, Carl Sagan, the production and presentation of the cosmos: a Personal Voyage documentary Adapted to the present version of the series.
The important thing that makes the new series different from the previous one is the point of science and technology in about 30 years since the first series was published. The new documentary series presents many universally new findings to mankind with a cinematic and animation quality that is unimaginable that day.
However, the aim of the series to be the ‘ bridge mission ‘ between the academy and the general audience is preserved in the new series. In fact, the new version of the documentary has been given a more natural, intimate narrative language, rather than information that makes it easier to understand. This time the documentary is named Neil DeGrasse Tyson, a famous astrophysicist. (a reminder for the fans, the documentary Prof. Tyson, Haluk Bilginer sings.)
The main purpose of the Cosmos; How life works, to convey the enormous cycle of universal harmony in the simplest and most impressive form of mankind.
Science is trying to explain a lot of things, but Tyson’s “every invention in science is a bigger mystery.” It rereminds us that the information we have gained with science is only a small part of the long journey that humanity is pursuing in the pursuit of knowledge.
Cosmos describes the existence of rules and theories that science has begun to understand in the centuries-long quest and that has a great Harmon and the universe, without deviating from the line of logic and science in a fluid and expressive style. This narrative transforms the universal order into a unique source of inspiration, which has lasted for billions of years and is forcing our imagination to be an adventure that extends to eternity.
In the last episode of the series called “Don’t Be Afraid of the dark”, Tyson is making a speech that sums up the fundamental principles of science very nicely. In this article I would like to convey to you the principles that Tyson spoke of, quoting from his speech:
“We, the tiny creatures living in this particle of dust, how did we manage to send space shuttles between the stars of the Milky Way?
Just a few centuries ago, in cosmic time, we knew nothing about where and when we were just a second ago.
We were unaware of the rest of the cosmos.
In some kind of prison, we lived in a tiny universe, restricted by a walnut shell.
How did we survive this prison?
This achievement is the work of generations of researchers who have gone through five simple rules.
Question Authority.
No idea is true, because someone says it’s true, including me.
Think for yourself.
Question yourself.
Don’t believe anything, just because you want to believe it.
Believing in something doesn’t make it real.
Test ideas with evidence from observations and experiments.
An idea you like very much is wrong if you can’t pass a well-constructed test!
Keep moving.
Go where the evidence is taking you.
If you have no evidence, do not make any advance judgment.
Maybe the most important rule is this:
Note that You may be mistaken!
Even the best scientists have been mistaken for some issues.
Newton, Einstein and all the great scientists in history have occasionally made mistakes.
Of course they would; After all, they were just human beings… “
Tyson continues to underline the important points in his speech about what science is going to do and how we use it:
“Science is a way for us to deceive ourselves and each other.
Do scientists commit crimes? Sure.
The way we abused every vehicle we had, we also abused the science.
So we can’t afford to leave science in the hands of only a few powerful people.
The more people who possess science, the harder it becomes to misuse it.
These values reduce the attractiveness of fanaticism and ignorance.
…
Learn about the age of the Earth or the distance of the stars or how life evolved! What difference does it make? It’s a bit of a matter of how big a universe you want to live.
Some would prefer to be small! There’s nothing wrong with that. Understandable.
…
But I want it to be big!
…
Because what is real is important, and our imagination is nothing compared to the wonderful reality of nature.
…
The rest of us and everything else on this planet is the legacies of a cosmic evolution of billions of years. If we take this information into consideration; If we are able to recognize and know nature as it really is, it is certain that we will be remembered as the good and powerful circles of the life chain by generations after us. Our children will continue this prestigious quest, and they will discover the worlds that we have looked at before us, and that is not even imaginable in the cosmos. “
In fact, when we discuss the conversation only in terms of science, some people may not be interested in saying I’m not a scientist. However, a little more carefully, it will be seen that the principles and established dreams that are sorted are related to our daily lives. Because in fact, science is the daily life itself.
Stay with love in the light of science….
